Mahjong Diva Obaka Miiko Chapter 9

It's been nearly half a year, but we're finally back with the last chapter of Volume 1 of Miiko!! It's taken us longer than I would've liked to get through this volume, but there's been a lot of real-life issues I've had to face and I've been more concerned about them than scanlating as of late. But it's finally here, and we've got a good chapter that expands upon a character introduced earlier on in the series!!

Mahjong Diva Obaka Miiko Chapter 7

Welllllll! It's been a long time, hasn't it, mahjong fans?! My life got indescribably complicated over these past 6 months so I have been trying to get it back under control and manga translating was really the least of my worries. I did try to get this chapter done and sent to Frenetic to typeset about 3 months ago but it looks like I actually forgot to send him the translation in the first place so it's no wonder he never got it finished! In the meantime, Frenetic got himself a new job that is going to use up all of his time, so I was thinking I was going to have to take over the typesetting on this project myself. But just when I was getting ready to start work on it, out pops Jawsh, the current cleaner for Kaiji who has worked on a number of projects for Hokuto no Gun and is currently going through Muteki no Hito by Kaitani Shinobu, expressing his fondness for Miiko and asking if I needed help editing it! So of course I happily welcomed him aboard, and less than a single day after sending him the translations he produced this immaculate English version above and beyond anything I was expecting!! A huge round of applause to him for being so incredible, and here's hoping we can get lots more chapters like this out in the near future!!

Mukoubuchi Chapter 21

Sorry to keep you waiting! Here's the next chapter of Mukoubuchi, where we finish up the Imitation arc! I haven't dropped this series, I still love it but since I'm a Christian now the idea of translating something where the main character is a "demon in human form" doesn't really sit right with me any more. I was thinking I wouldn't do it any more, but thinking about it that was just my translation of "Oni" in the first place. Kai is a "Hito-Oni" in the original, a "Man-Oni", and since Oni are mythological creatures from Japan that aren't really equivalent to demons, if I just call him an "Oni in human form" from this point forward I think I'll still feel ok with doing the series. I still might drop it once I reach the end of the arc that I really want you guys to see, but until then you can expect releases eventually, it is still a lot of work but I'll put in the time for the love of the series.

And without even a week going by, we're back with a new chapter of Obaka Miiko! Things are going to heat up in this chapter as we're introduced to our main villain and we learn a very useful tip! Thanks to Frenetic7 for taking the reins for this chapter, he's one of the people that was asking for this manga in the first place so I'm happy to have him helping out with it as well!

Well it's been 2 months since I quit FKMTkrazy but my life has been empty without translating so when my old friend that helped translate Datenroku Kaiji with me, Skutieos, got back in contact with me and asked if there were any series I wanted him to help with now that I have more time, my mind immediately went to series by Katayama Masayuki, one of the most prestigious writers for Kindai Mahjong, since his series typically involve very real strategies that high-level Mahjong pros actually use. My absolute favorite work by him is "No Mark Bakuhaitou", one of the funniest and most unique manga I've ever read period, but as far as series that will actually be useful for people wanting to learn how to play mahjong at a higher level, there's no better series than this one, Utahime Obaka Miiko, which I stylized as "Mahjong Diva Obaka Miiko".

The Obaka part means "Big Dummy", and the series is about a girl named Miiko who becomes a mahjong pro but has no idea how to play mahjong, so when she runs into an A-League pro named Namidame she asks him to teach her how to play, which at the same time teaches the reader some very useful tips for playing at the highest level! Each and every chapter has a mahjong lesson worked in, and the story is also very good. I'm sure you all will get something out of this "Mahjong for Dummies" series, and I hope you take its lessons to heart and learn from it! It's going to take some time for the manga to really delve into the deepest secrets of playing mahjong well, but bear with us as we crank out these chapters with love!

I tell you, it hasn't felt like 9 months since the last chapter to me! When you get into a normal working routine, time just seems to fly by... but finally, I've managed to translate the next chapter of Mukoubuchi over the holiday season! We begin a new, short 2-chapter arc today relating to the Professional Japanese Mahjong scene, one of my favorite settings for a Mukoubuchi arc! ...Oh who am I kidding, nothing beats high-stakes gambling. But it's interesting to see how Pro Mahjong is organized for sure!

At long last, less than 4 months after the last chapter, we have arrived at the climactic FINALE of the Kannagi arc!! Kai just told Kannagi there was no value in winning on her 2-man, essentially belittling her and saying she has no right to compare herself to him! Can she prove him wrong in this final chapter, or will Kai prove how much better he is than even the baccarat dealer with a similar sense of flow to him?? Let's find out!

And after only 10 months, the next chapter of Mukoubuchi is out!! I have no excuse for the delay on this one besides life being sucky and not feeling like doing every job on this chapter. Tambur also took a while to quality check it. So eh. It's done now though, so let's finally continue the Kannagi arc! Go read the last chapter, since I'm sure you've forgotten what happened by now!!

Mukoubuchi Chapter 16

At long last, I bring to you Chapter 16 of Mukoubuchi, starting a brand-new arc! It's been 7 months since the last chapter, which is due to a number of factors. I had to do the translating, cleaning, AND typesetting on this chapter, and also there was the long essay at the end of Volume 2 which I worked on in bits and pieces when I wasn't translating Kaiji. But it's finally here, and this time, Yasunaga will be taking us down to an underground casino where Kai's opponent for this arc works as a Baccarat dealer...

As I mentioned, I did all the translating, cleaning and typesetting this chapter, but even though he humbly took himself out of the credits on the first page, Tambur was integral to making sure all the formatting stayed consistent and everything looked perfect, so thanks very much to him!

Your eyes do not deceive you, Mahjongkrazy has finally released another chapter! And not just that, it's going to resolve a year-long cliffhanger that we've left you on!! Terribly Sorry for the delay on this but again I needed to finish Shin Janki before I could feel good about releasing another chapter of this, and also Tambur isn't really interested in this manga anymore so it took some manipulation to get him to even do this chapter. I'll probably do the chapters from here on in on my own whenever I get a chance, there's still one more arc I definitely want to get to.

Shin Janki: Underground Mahjong Gambling! The Man Undefeated for 20 Years

It took me nearly a whole year, but I can finally say I kept my promise!! I let Ricu pick this movie as his choice for winning the 2nd FKMTkrazy Mahjong Tournament and even though I've never done anything like this before and there's still some lines I'm not 100% sure about, I managed to translate this movie to the best of my ability, certainly enough for you to understand the story!

I wound up having to pay a transcriber to help me with the lines I couldn't make out, so if you appreciate me finally finishing this consider donating to FKMTkrazy to help me make back some of the money I had to spend subbing this movie! Of course, not all the money would go to me, some will go to buying new chapters of Akagi and to other members of FKMTkrazy. Thank you!

Mukoubuchi 400th Chapter Commemoration

Terribly Sorry if I got your hopes up for a new chapter, but I figured this was the best place to dump these illustrations from the September issue of Kindai Mahjong that were made to celebrate Mukoubuchi's 400th chapter, drawn by mangaka of other Kindai Mahjong series, including Fukumoto and Maeda Jirou! Don't worry, no spoilers! I do wanna get back to Mukoubuchi but I feel like I need to finish subbing Shin Janki first, if I even can. Hopefully we'll get a new chapter out soon! Anyway, here's the illustrations:

Kita no Shishi Chapter 2

Finally, another chapter. Not of Ryuu, but of Kita no Shishi. I'm going to focus on finishing Kita no Shishi before going back to Ryuu, because it's easier for both of us.

Once again I don't have much to say about this chapter. It's a little strange, has those gekiga sex scenes that I'm not a fan of, and overall isn't very good. The only reason it's of interest is because it came out right before Naki no Ryuu, and a lot of the names and faces show up again in Ryuu. Also it has that classic gekiga hardboiled style, so it still might be worth reading. Enjoy!

We're back. It's been quite a while. I think this is because both Penchan and I have been working on series on the FKMTkrazy side (typesetting Kaiji and translating New Kurosawa respectively). Maybe a bit of laziness on my part too, but I won't admit it.

I also have a bit of interesting news for you all: it seems that the Naki no Ryuu series has changed ownership from Takeshobo (publishers of Akagi, etc.) to Shogakukan. There are plans to reprint the entire series in 10 pocket-sized volumes (5 for the original and 5 for Gaiden).
Even more exciting is that an entirely new oneshot called Naki no Ryuu Genesis was recently published in Big Comic Original (coincidentally the home of New Kurosawa, haha). With the oneshot was an announcement of a new special edition of Big Comic dedicated to gambling, which would include a new Naki no Ryuu series (tentatively called "Naki no Ryuu 2016"). The issue is slated to come out this fall, and needless to say I'm pretty freaking excited.
