Mukoubuchi 400th Chapter Commemoration

Terribly Sorry if I got your hopes up for a new chapter, but I figured this was the best place to dump these illustrations from the September issue of Kindai Mahjong that were made to celebrate Mukoubuchi's 400th chapter, drawn by mangaka of other Kindai Mahjong series, including Fukumoto and Maeda Jirou! Don't worry, no spoilers! I do wanna get back to Mukoubuchi but I feel like I need to finish subbing Shin Janki first, if I even can. Hopefully we'll get a new chapter out soon! Anyway, here's the illustrations:

Kita no Shishi Chapter 2

Finally, another chapter. Not of Ryuu, but of Kita no Shishi. I'm going to focus on finishing Kita no Shishi before going back to Ryuu, because it's easier for both of us.

Once again I don't have much to say about this chapter. It's a little strange, has those gekiga sex scenes that I'm not a fan of, and overall isn't very good. The only reason it's of interest is because it came out right before Naki no Ryuu, and a lot of the names and faces show up again in Ryuu. Also it has that classic gekiga hardboiled style, so it still might be worth reading. Enjoy!

Naki no Ryuu Chapter 22 and Complete Volume 3

We're back. It's been quite a while. I think this is because both Penchan and I have been working on series on the FKMTkrazy side (typesetting Kaiji and translating New Kurosawa respectively). Maybe a bit of laziness on my part too, but I won't admit it.

I also have a bit of interesting news for you all: it seems that the Naki no Ryuu series has changed ownership from Takeshobo (publishers of Akagi, etc.) to Shogakukan. There are plans to reprint the entire series in 10 pocket-sized volumes (5 for the original and 5 for Gaiden).
Even more exciting is that an entirely new oneshot called Naki no Ryuu Genesis was recently published in Big Comic Original (coincidentally the home of New Kurosawa, haha). With the oneshot was an announcement of a new special edition of Big Comic dedicated to gambling, which would include a new Naki no Ryuu series (tentatively called "Naki no Ryuu 2016"). The issue is slated to come out this fall, and needless to say I'm pretty freaking excited.

Naki no Ryuu Chapter 21

We're back! And also apparently I lied way back in the post for the first chapter, because there's a very brief sex scene in this chapter. Old mahjong gekiga always featured that business, so I shouldn't be surprised, I guess.

Kita no Shishi Chapter 1

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I have the first new chapter from the group in a little while. The bad news is that it's not Ryuu. The worse news is that Penchan is going on vacation for about a month and there won't be any Ryuu until he gets back.

Hey losers. Uploading chapters on the blog one by one might be kinda eehh since most of you probably watched the anime, so I've been thinking about waiting until the full volume's done to make the blog post (until we get to the chapters not covered by the anime of course.)
I'm gonna keep uploading the chapters on batoto as soon as they're done tho.

If you'd rather have the more frequent blog posts or just don't like using batoto, just tell me and i'll start making blog posts as soon as the chapter's done.

Mukoubuchi Chapter 12

Damn, two whole weeks late on this one. If you look at the chapter though you'll see why; there was tons and tons of localizing to do, and penchan was busy to boot. But we finally got it done, and in this chapter, the men with Ibaraki dialects go head-to-head with the man called a demon in human form!

On a side note, if anyone's going to Sakura-con in seattle this weekend I'll be hanging out in the mahjong room pretty much all weekend long. I should be cosplaying Kazuya so be sure to come and say hi!

Mukoubuchi Chapter 11

Mukoubuchi 11 is now up! In this chapter, we discover that parlors are being raided one after another after banning two men with Ibaraki dialects... and those two men show up in Tajima's parlor! He wants to drive them out because they're clearly cheating, but he can't or else they'll rat him out to the police!! Can he do anything to stop them before they drive all his customers away?!

Mukoubuchi Chapter 8

Mukoubuchi Chapter 8 is now up! In this chapter, we join a man named Hikage who plays by sheer probability and does so well that he's been kicked out of a mahjong parlor since nobody wants to play him! What does he think of how Kai plays?!

Naki no Ryuu Chapter 14

It's been a while, hasn't it? I know it's been a long time because originally I was going to start off this post with "Happy Ryuu Year," but now we're 3 whole weeks into 2016. The delay was entirely my fault; I just didn't get around to translating the next chapter for a while.
Also, I noticed an error on one page in chapter 13 that I really wanted to correct, even though it had already been released. I have the updated file here, and I will also be uploading it to Batoto. If you read Ryuu on other aggregate sites, well that's what you get when your site only rips the first release.

The only thing I changed was the name of Kawachi's newly-formed "Kouyuu Group" to "The Auspicious Alliance." To put it simply, I lazily transliterated the name like every other syndicate and group that came before it, but then I realized that "Kouyuu" isn't a name, but a description. I'll explain a little more in-depth after the jump.

Mukoubuchi Chapter 7

Chapter 7 is now up! With this, we've caught up to where we'd be if we hadn't missed a week, so we'll be going back to biweekly from now on. In this chapter, Wakamu from last chapter comes back for revenge on Kai, and we see the pro mahjong player Yasunaga for the first time since chapter 3!

A new chapter of Mukoubuchi is now up! In this chapter, Kai finds himself playing with unusual rules where you can pass on your dealer turn from whatever position you want! How will he react to these new rules?
