Mukoubuchi Chapter 12

Damn, two whole weeks late on this one. If you look at the chapter though you'll see why; there was tons and tons of localizing to do, and penchan was busy to boot. But we finally got it done, and in this chapter, the men with Ibaraki dialects go head-to-head with the man called a demon in human form!

On a side note, if anyone's going to Sakura-con in seattle this weekend I'll be hanging out in the mahjong room pretty much all weekend long. I should be cosplaying Kazuya so be sure to come and say hi!

"The best way to lure a wild beast is to show him some exciting prey!"

The way that Yasunaga got Kai to come play the Mito group was interesting; he knew he couldn't just ask Kai to come since he's a Mukoubuchi; he had to kind of tell Kai where some interesting opponents were and hope that he'd take the bait. I wonder if Kai knows he's being used... I'd imagine he probably does and just doesn't care since it's a winning deal for him, too.

So of course the original signal system that Yasunaga worked out was Japanese characters, not western ones, so I probably had to redo this chapter 5 or 6 times working out the right arrangement of the man pin sou and 147 258 369 that would accomplish everything that needed to be done. A big issue was trying to make it "simple", so I had to keep it in alphabetical order and have some kind of pattern to how the numbers were arranged. This works well enough I guess, but does lead to some awkward lines like "Callin' that!". It seems that the system isn't even right, though... we'll see what Kai's worked out next chapter.
