Naki no Ryuu Chapter 5

Here's the next chapter of The Crying Dragon. If we release one chapter a week, we'll be done on January 27, 2017. To put that in perspective, I bet Akagi won't be done by then, so I'm not concerned about it.

Thanks to Penchan for the cleans and typesetting. Things are finally getting serious, so thanks to everyone that's stuck with this series and its rather slow start.

Since we're done with the first four chapters, we've moved on from the Four Symbols, to Buddhist deities.

In Buddhism, an asura is a low-level demigod with three heads and four to six arms. They are obsessed with pride, violence, and other such negative emotions. To quote Wikipedia (where I'm getting all the info regarding these chapter names), "The state of an Asura reflects the mental state of a human being obsessed with ego, force and violence, always looking for an excuse to get into a fight, angry with everyone and unable to maintain calm or solve problems peacefully." In Japanese, the word "shura" (another spelling of asura and the true name of the chapter) can also mean "violence" or "carnage."

Sounds like a pretty apt name for this chapter, no? I have a suspicion that all the chapter names hold some form of significance, but I haven't really taken any effort to look for the connections outside of obvious ones like this chapter.

Also, in case you're wondering about the page where Ryuu's kan of the 7-man looks corrupted, it seems to be an error present in all forms of the series. It's in the public scans of the series as well as the digital ebook edition. Here's the panel from the ebook edition for reference.

  1. Thanks for the chapter, and for the notes.

  2. The corrupt panel seems to be due to a printing error, but the fact that it's also there in the digital edition is pretty strange. This strengthens my suspicion that the digital edition is actually just a leveled and slightly smaller version of the public scans.
