Miiko definitely got ahead of herself by switching to Gataka, she was calling Namidame mean but Gataka is downright misogynistic. Frenetic and I actually decided to censor some of his dialogue this chapter because it was so extreme, he actually told Reira that he would rape her if she talked smack again in the original, I'm not even joking. He is an absolute tyrant to his pros and I hope Miiko realizes soon that she's much better off with Namidame, all he did was play his own game whereas Gataka has the potential to straight-up abuse her.
As for the mahjong lesson this chapter, I think it's an absolutely critical piece of information. You absolutely need to make sure the tiles you call on are tiles that are hard to get, otherwise you'll probably wind up with a bad tenpai, or miss out on a closed hand you could have gotten. You also never want to call from a hand that's far away even if both of your Yakuhai come out, there's just no benefit to rushing a hand when it has so far to go... not that I haven't done it, but only in rare situations like where I have a lot of dora. Definitely take this lesson to heart for your game, it's super important. See you next time!

ReplyDeleteI'm disappointed to hear that you decided to censor Gataka. It seems neither necessary or appropriate.
ReplyDeleteIt just seemed extreme to me what he said. I asked Frenetic for a 2nd opinion and he also agreed that it was over the top so we changed it. You can still tell how much of a shithead Gataka is without having him talk about rape. We just didn't think it was very tasteful. Hope you enjoyed the chapter anyway.
