It seems a little extreme for every single female pro to have one teacher, but I'm guessing that must be because of how much of a chokehold Gataka has on the entire JMP organization. Nobody dares go against him, so everyone has to follow in line with what he says. It's too bad he's such an arrogant prick. It's a good thing Miiko has Namidame to fall back on or else she'd just have to go along with everyone else. But... he really should have woken up on time to make it to her games, that's not the way to make a good impression.
The mahjong lesson in this chapter is good, but only up until 1-shan-ten. You definitely do want to back up your weak areas until then, but like the hand Miiko fell for in this chapter, you want to just put yourself in the best position you can for Tenpai. DDR_Dan did an extensive video on what to do in every tricky Iishanten position, so I recommend you check that out here if you want to know what areas to "back up" once you get to 1 tile from Tenpai. Also, if you have other isolated tiles you definitely want to get rid of those first before you think about backing up one area or another. But other than that it's a very useful tip when you're not sure what part of your hand to cut down.
